This was one of the most enjoyable double portraits I have done in a long time. Noted Photographer Ann H. Cyr commissioned me to paint a portrait of her husband Albert. In visiting with him I found that I loved the light coming from the back of him and highlighting his long white and grey beard. In posing him this way I photographed my referenece images of him and during one of the shots, his beloved dog "La Cheinne" climbed up on a nearby sofa and perched herself up on the arm rest and peered into his eyes! Albert then made this great expression and I knew this moment needed to be captured with my pastel painting. It was a challenge with the lighting and to decide just what background color and value to use but I think it is most successful. When people view this pastel painting they either smile broadly or break out in laughter. It will be a treasure!
